This piece, which is a complete departure from his usual subject matter, depicts a medieval knight in armor holding a small child. The evocative bronze speaks to us on many different levels, and early reactions have been very impressive. It is a piece which all collectors of Randy Groves' work will be immediately attracted to
The Knight and Child encapsulates a theme to be found in so much of Randy Groves' Civil War sculpture - that of man's humanity to man can be found in that most unlikely ground - the battlefield.
“I've always found the tender side of soldiers an interesting human trait,” he explains. “So often one comes across tales of one soldier giving another a drink of water mere minutes after trying to kill him.”
